The Truth Behind New Colors, New Fabrics, and a Very Tired Small Business Owner | Spa Threads

Let’s just call it what it is: launching something new is hard.
From the outside looking in, it probably seems simple. A small business already has products out in the world, so surely it must be easy to just “add more colors” or “offer different fabrics,” right? We’re all used to seeing big box stores roll out new variations without blinking. But they have entire teams working around the clock, plus the capital and infrastructure to make it all look effortless.
As a small business owner, I’ve had to figure out every single piece on my own. And honestly? Navigating all the unknowns has been overwhelming at times. Even after launching my first product, I’m still learning how everything actually works behind the scenes.
The truth is, even when you know how to sell something, bringing something new into the world is its own kind of hard. But here I am anyway. Still creating, still experimenting, still pushing things forward. Every small business owner knows that little spark of “what if?”
My new products come from that “what if”. From noticing what’s missing, from listening to what people wish existed, from my own desire to make something better, softer, and more beautiful.
I wish I could say I launch new things because I’m brave. But honestly? It’s scary. It’s full of self-doubt and “will anyone actually like this?” moments. I know a lot of my customers are also small business owners, and can understand the same feeling. Being out of our comfort zone is where the magic happens (well I hope so…) because I feel like I am out of my comfort zone almost 100% of the time.
There’s always the fear of getting it wrong. Of ordering too many. Of ordering too few. Of making the wrong call on colors, on fabrics, on timing, on literally everything. But growth doesn’t come from standing still. I want to keep evolving, even when it feels like it would just be easier to quit.
And of course, things never go according to plan. (I think we all can relate.) Behind the scenes, it’s been nonstop: back-and-forth emails, sampling, testing, revising, more sampling, more testing, more roadblocks, endless spreadsheets, a few tears, and all those tiny details you never see but absolutely have to get right before anything can launch.
Learning so much at once takes time and patience, but we’re finally here! It’s not exactly what I imagined when I first started planning my second set of products back in late summer, but I’m happy with where I’ve landed.
What’s kept me going is you. The product reviews, the little relationships forming, the kindness you’ve shared with me these past few months. Even though this type of business feels so different from my esthetics work, I’m still overwhelmed with gratitude every time I get those moments of connection. I am excited to FINALLY announce the new colors, a new print, and a new fabric launching very soon. Check out the Spa Threads shop collection.
